Here at The Bunbury we pride ourselves on our selection of the finest cask ales, popular favourites to feature on the Bunbury hand pumps include Doom Bar from Cornish brewery Sharp’s, locally brewed Spitting Feathers from Waverton and the ever popular Joseph Holt’s.

Alan alongside his wife Janet, both natives of Hartlepool, developed their interest in pubs firstly by working in some of the towns Cameron’s ale houses. “Proper cask conditioned Cameron’s Strongarm was a rarity back then.”  “Easy to keep keg beers had all but replaced it in most pubs. Thankfully, some dedicated publicans continued serving it with a six or seven inch head, which was then set aside and allowed to develop a brown-tinged crust, before being topped up some time later, giving the drinker a glistening beer moustache, Pure magic!”

Alan & Janet began running pubs back in the early 70’s, after Alan won a Master Cellarman Award, which in turn boosted his interest in Real Ale. As CAMRA gained momentum, Alan gained the first of his Good Beer Guide entries, which over his 38 years in the trade with Janet, running numerous well loved country pubs amounted to over 25 further entries, in addition to several Awards of Excellence from various brewers and for the past few years full Cask Marque accreditation. The Bunbury  has also won CAMRA Summer Pub of the Year at the Pub of the Year awards.

Following the sudden and very saddening passing of Alan in 2011 his fantastic Bunbury team,  lead by his proud wife Janet alongside her 3 children, have maintained and championed the strong Bunbury focus on quality real ale and fresh, hearty home cooked meals served with a smile. This, along with the beautiful Cheshire countryside setting, Summer beer garden, roaring Winter coal fire (and The Bunbury family ducks and chickens!) makes The Bunbury Arms as much the hidden gem as it ever was.
